There is no big secret that a lot of families in Michigan have either lost their home, job, or room that they were staying in due to the virus.

After doing a little research I was able to locate some information on how to get rental assistance while we are experiencing the pandemic.

The beauty of this resource is residents do not need to be facing eviction to quality for rental assistance in the state of Michigan.

The qualifications are based on how much income you are bringing into your home, I think it is wonderful that we have resources to help us in a time of need.

I found an article from Fox 2 News called "Here's how to receive COVID-19 rental assistance in Detroit" by Amber Ainsworth that stated

"How much money you qualify for will be based on your income.

Detroiters are eligible for the program if they meet any of the below criteria:

  •  A member of the household has qualified for unemployment.
  •  A member of the household has had at least a 10% reduction in income.
  •  A member of the household has incurred significant costs of more than $500.
  • The household can demonstrate a risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability evidenced by a past due notice for utilities or rent.
  • Household income is below 80% area median income -- $44,000 or less as an individual or $62,000 for a family of four

Additionally, tenants earning up to 50% of the area median income can get an additional $500 to help pay utility bills.

The program requires that in order for the landlord to receive the entire past-due amount they are owed, the property must be free from imminent threats to health and safety. Examples include holes in the roof, lack of hot water or heat, sewage backups, vermin, or black mold. Up to 50% of the amount approved for payment of past-due rent may be released to the landlord if funds are needed for the repair."

Although it is not a lot of money to take care of all of your bills, it is enough to help make a dent in the bills that you currently do have.

Another qualification for to receive the rental assistance would be the household cannot have any threats or household troubles such as black mold, holes in the roof, or sewage backups.

This also looks like the rental assistance program, goes for people who are renting and not for families that own the property.

Hopefully they will come out with an assistance program for people that are owning their homes as well because, I'm pretty sure some of them have loss their jobs or this would be beneficial to as well.

It is all about being able to help each other in a time of need because everyone goes through rough patches so, it is great to have resources for everyone regardless if they are renting or buying a home.

A lot of people have been able to receive the stimulus check as well which is a bonus to their income during this time. During this pandemic I hope everything will be able to go back to normal and people will be able to gain their employment back.

Lastly, if you are in need of getting assistance you are able to click the link here. If you do not need assistance it is always beneficial to pass this information to a friend or family member that may be in need.

Helping the community or neighbor goes a long way when your doing it out of kindness and love.
