A beach might not be something that comes to mind when someone mentions, "Detroit." Although you won't find palm trees here, Michigan offers an abundance of lakes surrounded by beach areas.

Enjoy some fun and lake time this summer by heading to these 6 Metro Detroit beaches.

Martindale Beach

Located inside Kensington Metropark, is a beautiful beach that offers so many amenity options. Book a boat rental to cruise over to the Splash N' Blast water and spray park, where you'll find it's a great place for laying out in the sun and playing in the sand. This location is surrounded by Kensington's bike and walking trails, and is pet-friendly.

Mercer Beach

Located on Walled Lake near the popular restaurant, The Beach Tiki Bar and Boil, this lake is a small one for the entire family. A kids playscape, designated swimming area, picnic tables are just so much open space is available here to enjoy. If you are looking for a low-maintenance day in the sun, this might be the lake to relax at. This beach is even walking distance from the delicious Walled Lake staple, Big Dip Burgers.

Belle Isle Beach

Stony Creek Eastwood and Baypoint Beaches

If water slide, playscape and paddle-board rentals catch your eye, visit Stony Creek Eastwood and Baypoint Beaches. This destination offers a ton of scenery to take in and so much fun for families with all the children activities here. Baypoint even offers kayak rentals, picnic areas and is usually the less crowded beach of the two.

A local favorite is this Metropark that offers an array of things to do right on its beachfront. From yoga classes to shore fishing, there is so much to do here. Don't forget to bring along your boat as this location has boat access and a marina. This beach is so popular do to the park amenities including a golf course, hiking trails, tennis courts and more.

Deer Lake Beach

Located in the cute town of Clarkston, off White Lake Road, is Deer Lake Beach. This beach is near Deer Lake Athletic Club and within walking distance to the downtown area as well. Deer Lake Beach is complete with swimming zones, volleyball courts, kayak and paddle-board rentals, so a fun day is just waiting to happen.
