Skinphorea to Open a Second Facial Spa Location in Detroit This Summer

Becca Ballard

A bellini or martini is one way to de-stress after work, but what if it was served on your face instead of in a glass?

Skinphorea Facial Bar & Acne Clinic, the spa known for naming popular skin treatments after some favorite bar cocktails, has opened its second location in the heart of Corktown. Here you'll find top-tier facials, acne treatments and more. Skinphorea Facial Bar & Acne Clinic opened its doors on Aug. 6 to welcome guests into the 4,000-square-foot facial spa — located at 1620 Michigan Ave., Ste. 124.

In 2014, Skinphorea originally began as an eCommerce business until the first brick and mortar location was opened in Downtown Royal Oak in 2018, located at 621 S. Washington Avenue. Owners Jessie Hayes-Stallings and Shareese Shorter, was named winners of Motor City Match, a program designed to partner businesses with available real estate in Detroit.

Skinphorea offers services to both women and men who want skincare at an affordable price. Walking into Skinphorea will give you a happy hour feel, as their services all are named after drinks and cocktails, such as The Mimosa, an anti-aging treatment facial; The Skinphorea Glowtini express facial; and The Cosmo Chemical Peel. Laser hair removal and a 12-week acne clinic custom program is also available.

This Corktown location will even offer training and apprenticeship programs, with the goal of helping to expand the beauty industry in Detroit. Not only will this new space house the facial bar and spa's training facilities, it will also house Beauty Suites. These Beauty Suites are a 100-square-foot area that can be rented by beauty professionals such as hairstylists makeup artists, and more.

For the new space, Hayes-Stallings and Shorter plan to create 22 new jobs, including managerial and esthetician positions.
