The five-part monthly art walk event series begin in The District Detroit this month.
This art series highlights work by local artists and students both. The first debut was August 6 but the upcoming events are August 27th, September 10th and October 1st from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m.
The District Detroit Art Walk Series is curated by N’Namdi Center for Contemporary Art, the new five-part event series — which is presented by Pepsi and will take place in downtown Detroit this summer and fall. This event will feature dozens of for-sale works by local artists.
In the four hour window, from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m, attendees can stroll down Columbia Street between the Fox Theatre and Little Caesars Global Resource Center to view pieces by painter, illustrator, and muralist Nick Pizana; painter Ida Hawkins; free-hand drawer Leah Carroll; and many more. Through a partnership with Detroit Public Schools Community District, guests will also get the chance to see work by students in the district’s Fine and Performing Arts program. Their art will be on display along Montcalm Street and in front of the Fox.
Detroit is unique through its creativity and spirit, and this event will provide a special place for Michiganders to gather to enjoy just that.
Alongside the displayed artwork, Hardcore Detroit will perform urban dances, live chalk art will be throughout, complimentary caricature drawings are available and a custom spin art station will make up these monthly art walks. Shopping is available as well including gifts and home decor, paintings, drawings and more.
DJs will provide tunes for The District Detroit Art Walk Series. Meanwhile, local restaurant Frita Baditos will serve up Cuban-inspired street food, and guests 21 years of age and older can purchase Founders Brewing Co. beer and cocktails featuring Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey whiskey or Van Gogh Vodka.
Events will also be held on Aug. 27, Sept. 10, and Oct. 1. There is no cost for admittance, and $5 parking is available that can be reserved online. The parking is located at Fox Theatre Garage at 50 W. Montcalm St.
