Starbucks Launches Oak Milk On Menu & New Spring Drinks

Becca Ballard

The calender says it's winter, but spring has officially arrived at Starbucks.

The beginning of a new era has begun as Starbucks steps into a new territory. Starbucks expanded their plant-based options, by now adding a popular dairy alternative to their menu. Customers now have a fourth non-dairy milk option to customize their Starbucks drink order: oat milk.

Starbucks partnered with Oatly, a Swedish oat milk producer, to bring the plant-based dairy alternative to its menu. Oat milk is known for its mild flavor and velvety texture that will compliment any coffee drink. Oat milk is a healthy milk alternative made by soaking oats in water, and then straining the mixture through a cheesecloth. The other non-dairy alternatives offered at Starbucks include almond milk, coconut and soy milk.

Starbucks did state that the chain with be adding Oatly oat milk to their permanent menu, nationwide, so it will not be going anywhere.

As iced coffee drinks have been on the rise the last year, the oat milk addition was not the only piece of inspiration for Starbuck's spring drink release. These new spring beverages introduced include a honey oatmilk latte and iced brown sugar oatmilk shaken espresso. The honey oatmilk latte is oatmilk and Starbucks Blonde Espresso Roast combined with a hint of honey and a toasted honey topping. The iced brown sugar oatmilk shaken espresso is Starbucks Blonde espresso shaken with brown sugar and cinnamon, and then topped off with oatmilk and ice.

Keeping the plant-based theme going, Starbucks also announced a new permanent menu food items including the Chickpea Bites and Avocado Protein Box.
