Cassava Porridge: An Easy Nigerian Meal

BY's Recipe: Cassava porridge is a popular Nigerian meal. It's simple to make and requires no cooking experience. Children under ten need adult supervision.

What you need

  • Stove,
  • 40-50 minutes.

Required Ingredients

  • A large cassava tuber ( see the photo below),
  • Water,
  • Turmeric or curry powder,
  • Palm oil (optional).

Optional Ingredients

  • Salt to taste,
  • One tablespoon of palm oil or turmeric powder,
  • Beef and fish (chopped mushroom for vegans and vegetarians),
  • Chopped fruits or vegetables.

Step 1.

  • Peel the cassava tuber and cut it into small pieces,
  • Wash and set them aside,
  • Cut onions and prepare fish, beef, or mushroom,

Step 2.

  • Use a medium size pot,
  • Add two cups of water and bring it to a boil,
  • Add chopped onions and meat,
  • Cook until tender or until the water is almost dry.

Step 4.

  • Add one cup of water, oil, or turmeric powder,
  • Cover the pot and cook for a minute,
  • Add cut cassava and stir for a few seconds,
  • Cover the pot and cook until tender,
  • Add cut spinach or broccoli and cook for a few seconds.
