As avid Dim Sum enthusiasts, my family is always looking for hidden culinary gems that can deliver an authentic and delightful experience. Recently, we stumbled upon a surprising find—a global chain that has garnered accolades.
According to Tim Ho Wan USA:
In 2010, it won a Michelin star and became worldly popular as the “world’s most inexpensive Michelin starred restaurant.”
Per Eater Houston:
“The restaurant, which originated in Hong Kong, has expanded to 60 restaurants in 13 countries, including two outposts in New York, as well as Las Vegas, Hawaii, and California. The Katy location, which took nearly two years to complete, is the chain’s first opening since the start of the pandemic, according to a release.”
The international chain's founder and acclaimed chef Mak Kwai Pui has partnered with a team of Hong Kong chefs, including dim sum specialist chef Paul Li, to helm the impressive 5,160 square feet, 120-seat restaurant that offers truly remarkable cuisine.
Intrigued by its reputation for better quality and a restaurant-style dining experience, we eagerly ventured to this spot on a peaceful Monday morning at 11 am, hoping to savor the flavors and ambiance it had to offer.
To our pleasant surprise, there was no wait as my daughter and I were swiftly seated upon arrival. The absence of a crowd allowed us to fully appreciate the calm atmosphere that enveloped the restaurant.
As we settled in, our waitress greeted us warmly and promptly brought a pitcher of water to our table. Throughout our dining experience, she remained attentive, ensuring our glasses were replenished and frequently checking in to ensure our satisfaction.
The restaurant's impeccable cleanliness contributed to a pleasant and hygienic dining environment. The meticulous attention to detail in maintaining a spotless establishment added to the overall appeal, allowing us to focus solely on the culinary delights that awaited us.
While the menu was more limited than other Dim Sum establishments, it included all the beloved and popular dishes that Dim Sum aficionados crave. We embarked on our culinary journey, savoring various delectable creations that left us wanting more.
Among the standout dishes was the Deep Fried Eggplant with Shrimp. The tender eggplant was perfectly complemented by the crispy, lightly battered, and fried shrimp topping, showcasing the culinary prowess of the chefs. A delightful combination of flavors and textures left us thoroughly impressed.
For those seeking a healthier option, the Blanched Chinese Broccoli with Fried Garlic proved to be a noteworthy choice. The broccoli was cooked to perfection, retaining its vibrant color and satisfying crunch. The addition of fragrant fried garlic elevated the dish, providing a delightful balance of flavors.
No Dim Sum experience would be complete without a sweet finale, and the Lava Custard Sesame Ball did not disappoint. With its crunchy exterior and a well-balanced filling, the sesame ball offered a pleasing contrast of textures. The luscious custard within melded harmoniously with the crispy sesame shell, resulting in a delectable conclusion to our meal.
Here are some photos of the restaurant and the dishes we enjoyed there.
