Animal stories that evoke feelings of warmth and compassion have proven popular among my readers.

In one of my previous posts, I shared a touching story about the love between two geese, which was enthusiastically received.

Therefore, I am pleased to present another piece that will tug at your heartstrings.

The Love Story of A Rescue Rooster and a One-Legged Hen

Shrimp and Basil’s love story is a touching tale of companionship and love that transcends species and disability.

Both residents of the Here With Us Animal Sanctuary, the two have formed an unlikely bond that has captured the hearts of everyone who has had the pleasure of witnessing it.

Shrimp is a rescue rooster who narrowly escaped euthanasia, while Basil is a disabled hen who had to have one of her legs amputated due to an infection.

They live together in their own enclosure made of mats and baby gates, where they share treats and perform dances for each other.

Their romance started in October of last year when Basil had to be brought inside for her safety after her surgery, and Shrimp was brought inside because other chickens were bullying him in the coop. Although it took Basil a little longer to warm up to Shrimp, the two are now inseparable.

Shrimp is very affectionate towards Basil and gets excited to see her when they are separated. He lets her eat first, gives her snacks, and even performs dances for her.

On the other hand, Basil is a bit more reserved but still shows her love in her own way. She gets very excited when she knows she is going to see Shrimp.

According to the sanctuary’s founder, Amanda Clark, Shrimp and Basil’s love story is a testament to the power of love and companionship, regardless of species or ability.

She adds that they are 100 percent pets and no different than having a cat or a dog running around the house.
