Sephora to open 13 stores in Houston inside Kohl’s

Sephora is set to significantly increase its presence in Houston by opening inside more Kohl's stores.

According to its website, the French beauty retailer, which currently has 13 standalone stores and five within Kohl's stores in the Houston area, plans to open 13 more locations within Kohl's stores in the region.

With Sephora stores in five of Kohl's 21 Houston-area stores, the expansion would bring the regional total to 31, including 18 within Kohl's, by the end of 2023.

According to Kohl's, its in-store Sephora locations are approximately 2,500 square feet in size.

The stores are designed to look and feel like a standalone Sephora, offering a curated selection of makeup, skincare, hair, and fragrance brands, and are staffed by Sephora-trained beauty advisors who provide personalized beauty consultations and product recommendations.

Kohl's currently plans to open Sephora locations in Humble, Friendswood, Baytown, Houston, Conroe, Lake Jackson, Cypress, League City, Pasadena, Rosenberg, and Missouri City. However, exact locations are subject to change, according to the company.

Sephora stores already exist in Houston, Tomball, Spring, Richmond, and Conroe Kohl's stores.

Sephora did not renew its previous 15-year partnership with JCPenney and exited the stores last year. JCPenney, for its part, is launching JCPenney Beauty as a replacement.

Sephora at Kohl's will expand into seven new states this year, including Arkansas, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, South Dakota, and Utah, bringing the company's total presence to 48 states.

The expansion will bring the number of Sephora at Kohl's locations to 850, meeting the retailer's goal when the partnership was announced in August 2021.

Kohl's also announced plans to bring the Sephora brand to all of its more than 1,100 locations, beginning with 50 smaller format stores by the end of this year and expanding to the rest of the chain by 2025.
