Recently, we covered the disappearance of Felicia Marie Johnson — a black woman who vanished after interviewing for a job. As the police began to look into her case, they were able to narrow down a likely suspect. Chukwuebuka Nwobodo, 28, was charged in connection with the murder of Johnson, 24, who disappeared after leaving a hotel in Houston on April 16, according to police. Nwobodo had been arrested for a traffic violation. During that time, the police found enough evidence on his phone to be convinced of his guilt. Despite all of that evidence, they released him.

Now, it looks like they were wrong to do so.

Nearly a year after Felicia Marie Johnson went missing, remains of a woman were found in Texas. A man working with the Texas Department of Transportation contacted the police and alerted them of what was found. The remains were determined to be human and DNA samples were taken to be tested.

“It is with a heavy heart that we report dental records have confirmed that the human remains are that of missing person Felicia Johnson of California,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “Our hearts go out to the Johnson family and friends and we hope this brings them some closure.”

During their investigation, the police learned that Nwobodo picked Johnson up from an apartment complex. He then drove her to his apartment and she had not been seen since. Shortly after her disappearance, Nwobodo went to the store and purchased trash bags, towels, and a saw. When the police searched his car, they found gloves, a knife, and a shovel. Johnson’s blood was also found in his truck, according to the investigators.

A search of Nwobodo’s phone also revealed that he went to Google in order to find various ways of covering up his crimes.

Anyone with information on Nwobodo’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Houston Police Department Homicide Division at 713–308–3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713–222–8477.
