Former Joe Congressman Cunningham officially announced his run for governor this week. Cunningham recently filed the appropriate legal paperwork to run for governor for South Caroilina. He is a former congressman.
This former congressman for South Carolina’s First District is avaiable to run for the seat of South Carolina governor simce he lost his seat to Republican challenger Nancy Mace this past November, 2020. While all are still awaiting the official announcent to the local and national press.

Joe Cunninghma was a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from South Carolina's 1st District when he was in office - January 3, 2019 – January 3, 2021. He was born May 26, 1982, which makes his age 38. His wife is Amanda Bonfiglio Cunningham. They were married in 2014. They have one child.
The former congressman's full name is Joesph Kendrick Cunningham. This lawyer and politician covered the district that includes the very popular South Carolina vacation region of Hilton Head Island.

In a video also posted to Cunningham’s Facebook page, the candidate said he was “running for Governor of South Carolina because the challenges we face aren’t because of our people, they’re because of our politicians.”
Joe Cunningham was born and raised in an extremely rural town in the western part of Kentucky before his move to South Carolina. While in South Carolina he attend the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC. He also attended Florida Atlantic University and grautated with a Bachelors of Science in Ocean Engineering. After a stint working in marine and environmental consulting for a firm in Naples, Florida. He was eventually laid off in 2008 during the recession. This led to his return to school and a Northern Kentucky University's Salmon P. Chase College of Law degree. While there is was national Vice-Chair of the Student Bar Association. After passing the bar exam, he moved back to Charleston, South Carolina. While there is worked practicing lasw for a downtown construction law firm.
His father, Bill Cunningham is a veteran of the Vietnam War. His dad is also a former Kentucky Supreme Court Justice. Joe's Mother is named Paula raise five boys said to be rowdy. She also starting a publishing company and helped run a yoga studio.
Per his official website in 2018, he became the first Democrat to be elected to South Carolina's First Congressional District in over 40 years. The Charleston Post and Courier called his victory the "biggest upset in modern South Carolina history."
During his two-year term in office, Congressman Cunningham was widely recognized for his accomplishments. While serving on the House Veterans Affairs and Natural Resources Committees, he passed two bills into law in his first term, including the Veterans Tele-hearing Modernization Act and the Great American Outdoors Act. In 2019, Joe delivered on another signature campaign promise when the House passed his bipartisan bill banning offshore drilling.
Delivering on his promise to put "Lowcountry Over Party," Cunningham was considered one of the most independent and bipartisan members of Congress. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce ranked him the 4th most bipartisan member of Congress and The Lugar Center ranked him as the most bipartisan freshman in the House in 2019.
Joe wants everyone to know that since leaving Congress, Cunningham did returned to practicing law in Charleston , but has also been spending a lot of time with his son in Boone, North Carolina in the mountains.
