Missing SC Woman Body Found

Search for a local young woman who hasn’t been seen since leaving convenience store, has now been stopped. The body of the missing 23 year old missing woman was discovered earlier today per the police. The death is being treated as a suspicious death.

Sumter officers were called at about 12:15 p.m. today after a passerby reported seeing a body of a woman, who was identified as Rebecca Danielle Brown, lying in a grassy area off South Guignard Drive, said Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Brown was last seen out with friends on March 17 when she walked off from the Sumter Stop. She was reported missing after 9 p.m. Multiple searches by ground and air were conducted beginning that night. The State Law Enforcement Division and specialized K-9 units from the region assisted. The Sumter Police Department and Sumter County Coroner’s Office have been leading the investigation.

Family members have now been notified and now the news released to the press. There is an autopsy scheduled for this Wednesday.

Earlier this week the search was on by the Sumter Police Department who was asking for help finding a missing woman. Per the police's Facebook page "Rebecca Danielle Brown has not been seen since going out with friends" since Wednesday, police said in a news release.The 23-year-old Sumter resident went missing after 9 p.m. per the police reports.

The young lady was last seen walking off from the Sumter Stop on South Guignard Drive near the intersection of Pocala Road, per police. This is a location about 14 miles from her residence. Information on where she was walking, or if she was alone, was not made available by the local police.

Police had described Brown as about 5-foot-4 and 165 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes. She was last seen wearing blue jeans, black shoes, a blue long-sleeved shirt as well as a black and gray zip-up sweatshirt, police said.

Currently, these are the only details that have been released to the public. Sumter County Sheriff’s Office is accepting all tips at the number above to assist in this investigation. The family has not spoken to the press.
