Today South Carolina Governor McMaster lifted the mandatory face mask requirements for state offices and restaurants in the state of South Carolina.

State officials believe it should be up to the individual and the owners of the restaruants. The state officials agree that it is recommended, but no longer required by the state of South Carolina.

This new executive order also allows South Carolina department heads of state agencies to bring the remainder of those working remotely back into the office to work in person.

Per South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, “Now that the majority of South Carolinians are eligible to receive the vaccine, and infections and hospitalizations have dropped significantly, state agency heads may safely bring back the last group of state employees working remotely,”

Read the entire South Carolina Executive Order here. This order was from the Office of the Governor and filed by Mark Hammond the Secretary of the State on March 5th, 2021.

Unlike Texas and Mississippi, we cannot lift a mask mandate because we never had one in the first place," South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster said on Twitter with a tweet. His mandate only included state offices and public restaurants.

"South Carolina took a measured approach and never closed. We gave South Carolinians the freedom to choose for themselves what’s best for their health and family," McMaster, a Republican, added. He was happy to say that in the light that Texas just lifted theirs.

Today the Governor of South Carolina Henry McMasters was also proud to Tweet, “We are racing to get people vaccinated in South Carolina and there is no better place to do it than at @TooToughToTame!

Thank you to @McLeodHealth and our community partners for coming together today to administer over 5,000 COVID-19 vaccines at the mass vaccination event.

Darlington, South Carolina where the Darlington Speedway is located, held a Covid-19 vaccination event and got 5,000 Covid-19 vaccinations completed today.

South Carolina’s Governor Henry McMaster also boasted today that "We never closed," said McMaster in the video. "Our reasonable steps of limited, measured and temporary actions allowed us to combat the virus without crippling our economy."

President Biden has remarked that he is not happy with the lifted mask mandates.

South Carolina Governor Henry McMasters had hinted at all restrictions going away earlier this week when he listed the last call for alcohol restrictions. Restaurants and bars are now able to resume serving alcoholic drinks past 11 p.m. after this restriction was listed.

See here “South Carolina Governor Lifts Last Call for Alcohol” for more details.

The lifting of the mask mandate does not mean you do not need a mask anywhere in South Carolina. Read what Brenda Bethune, the Mayor of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina said, “We have such a large percentage of our residents who are aged 65 and older,” Myrtle Beach Mayor Brenda Bethune previously said. “This is about being safe for them as well as for our visitors. So the mask order will stay in place, indefinitely at this point. We don’t know when the right time is to lift it. We’re not there yet.”

So residents and visitors to the state of South Carolina need to make sure they understand all mandates as they travel through the state.

At an announcement earlier this week the Governor of South Carolina Henry McMaster did lower his mask and remind those listening to please adhere to social distancing and capacity limits when out in public.

Remember the state official still recommends that masks are worn in restaurants but it is not currently a state mandate.
