Report: Three Children Struck by Bullets in Hampton Roads


HAMPTON ROADS, Va. - In a tragic turn of events, this holiday weekend was a time of celebration and unfortunately tragedy. Three children were struck by bullets in unrelated incidents over the course of Sunday evening on July 4, 2021.

One of the first victims of the three shootings is a 3-year-old who was shot on St. Paul's Blvd. in Norfolk, Va. Police report that the parents of the injured child were at the Hospital of the King's Daughters seeking help for the injuries. The child reportedly doesn't have life-threatening injuries.

A second child was hit by a stray bullet in Suffolk, Va. This incident occurred near 5th street near the southern 100 blocks. The report describes the bullet as "falling from the sky." Police reported to the scene at approximately 9:20 p.m. Additionally, this child sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The third shooting report involved a young girl who was found shot in Newport News, Va. Officers were on the scene at 10:50 p.m., July 4, 2021, on the corner of Hampton Ave. and 20th St. The victim is reported to be a juvenile female who does not have life-threatening injuries. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.
