ST. TAMMANY, LA — Celebrate National Dog Day on August 26 by going on a trip with your dog to St. Tammany Parish. St. Tammany Parish, also known as Louisiana's Northshore, provides outdoor recreation, dining options, and is canine-friendly. Here are some of the activities you can do with your dog in the Northshore.

1. Grab an ice cream

Having your favorite ice cream is a great way to cool you and your dog down. You can either visit the Pelican's SnoBalls in Slidell or Mandeville, or the Moo Moo's Frozen Custard in Mandeville to order a doggie delight for your dog.

2. Sit down and relax

Grab some burgers or hot dogs at the Beach House Bar & Grill, which has live music as well, or the Bruiser's Hot Dog Place. You can also go treasure hunting at the Abita Brew Pub or Abita Springs Café, or stop by Abita Brewery and relax on the patio.

3. Go hiking

Visit the Fontainebleau State Park in Mandeville or the Fairview-Riverside State Park in Madisonville to go hiking or camp for the weekend in a tent. If you prefer visiting a bayou and go on a birdwatching adventure, visit Northlake Nature Center's trail, which leads you to Bayou Castine.

4. Visit parks

Visit Pelican Bark Park in Mandeville, Camellia City Bark Park in Slidell, or the Pretty Acres Dog Park in Covington, where your dog can make some new friends and play in fenced-in and off-leash play areas. The parks also have pools, sand and grass areas, and water stations, as well as benches for you to relax.
