Join The Alligator Festival in St. Charles Parish this September
ST. CHARLES PARISH, LA – Save the date and join the annual Alligator Festival at the Westbank Bridge Park in St. Charles Parish from September 23- September 26, 2021. Watch live alligators, 10 bands, carnival rides, Cajun cuisine, craft booths, and more.
Hosted by the Rotary Club of St. Charles Parish, the Alligator Festival is a family-friendly event that features craft vendors, delectable alligator dishes, and live bands aimed to raise funds for college scholarships for the community's youth.
St. Charles Parish Rotary Club was established in 1978. The club decided to organize an event, named “the Alligator Festival” with all proceeds benefiting scholarships for Destrehan and Hahnville High School seniors. It is the largest festival in St. Charles Parish, and it continues to grow year after year.
Every year, the club looks for sponsors to help fund the festival. The Rotary Club of St. Charles Parish has awarded nearly $1 million in scholarships since Archie Mollere, a member of both the Rotary Club and the St. Charles Parish School Board, donated the first $250 scholarship in 1980.
The first Alligator Festival was held on the driving range at Willowdale Country Club in 1980. The Alligator Festival quickly outgrew Willowdale and was relocated to Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hahnville, then to two locations on Highway 90 in Boutte, one of which is now occupied by a Wal-Mart.
The West Bank Bridge Park has been the site of the Alligator Festival since 2000, hosted and staffed by nearly 90 members, as well as their families and friends of the Rotary Club. At the festival, don't forget to say hello to "Mr. Alligator", the President of the Rotary Club of St. Charles Parish and will be wearing a unique hat!
