The photography exhibition will be displayed from March 27, 2021, through September 5, 2021.
The exhibition presents a complete survey of documentary and a fine-art photographic tradition done in the American South from the early 20th century until today. The Revelations II: Recent Photography Acquisitions will feature permanent collections of works from 24 photographers.
Over the past decade, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art had collected these photographs. They depict the diverse perspective and experiments within the medium and reflect the depth and complexity of the region.
Meanwhile, the Revelation II exhibition will highlight several photographic processes and techniques. Those processes and techniques were made by twenty-five photographers who work within the traditional art genres of landscape, portraiture, and still-life.
Recently, the museum’s photography exhibition programming and acquisitions have been focusing on underrepresented photographers. The emerging photographers have joined with the established masters within Ogden’s collection to show the rich tradition of photography in the South.
In 2003, Roger Ogden originally donated over 600 works of art consisting of a permanent collection of paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, and photographs. Now the museum’s collection has grown to be more than 4,000 works, which were all acquired through the generosity of artists, patrons and collectors.
Until today the Ogden Museum’s permanent collection represented one of the most important and comprehensive collections of photographs made in the American South, with its more than 1,500 photographs.
