The Story Behind the Haunt
Behind the screams and shivers of PV Slaughterhouse lies the captivating story of its creators, Nathan and Brook Tomlinson, who have been the sinister masterminds behind this chilling experience for over 7 years. Their journey began humbly with the PV Haunted Trail in Powell, where they started by scaring a few friends in the woods – all for free.
As the haunted trail grew in popularity, the Tomlinsons faced the challenge of finding a new, larger location. Their quest led them to the old Rainsville Quality Meats building, a slaughterhouse, meat packer, and meat market abandoned for 33 years. Its eerie aura made it the perfect canvas for their nightmarish visions. Starting from scratch, they poured their blood, sweat, and tears into transforming this haunting space into what we know today.
PV Slaughterhouse maintains a hometown charm with scare actors, homemade props, and painstakingly crafted scenes. Instead of expensive animatronics, they rely on a multi-talented cast of 50-plus individuals who take pride in delivering an unforgettable experience. What sets them apart is their commitment to change, ensuring that customers won't see the same show every night. Each visit promises a new and heart-pounding adventure.
Nathan Tomlinson emphasized their dedication to originality, with no commercial characters or horror movie icons. Their characters are born from their creators' imaginations, and this authenticity is something they've always cherished.
Brook Tomlinson highlighted their goal of continuous entertainment and noted that PV Slaughterhouse attracts visitors from afar, including Huntsville, Birmingham, and Montgomery, as well as loyal locals who return weekend after weekend during the season.
Operating PV Slaughterhouse is a year-round endeavor, juggling regular jobs, parenting, and more. They start preparing for the next season as early as March, constantly reinventing the attraction with new walls, sets, and designs. In 2023, they're adding the "Gut Pond Trail," offering visitors two spine-chilling experiences in one.
Nathan Tomlinson summed up their journey with a simple but profound statement:
Everybody has a dream, and you have to chase it. I chased mine, and it has brought me here."
