(DETROIT, Mich.) Hello and welcome to this Wednesday's edition of the Detroit Daily Round-Up. Happy Hump Day — let's finish out the last half of this week!

Today is Wednesday, May 25, let's check out Metro Detroit's biggest stories of the day.

SE Michigan school districts react to Texas school shooting

In the wake of a mass shooting at an elementary school in Texas on Tuesday, southeastern Michigan school districts are taking steps to address the traumatic situation.

In a statement released on Tuesday by Oxford Community Schools Superintendent Ken Weaver, he sent condolences to people impacted by the Texas shooting, along with advice for parents comforting Oxford students who may feel triggered by the event.

Weaver advises families that students “will need your patience, kindness, and presence," as they try to navigate the senseless violence.

Utica Community Schools are implementing an additional police presence and offering tips to parents from the National Association of School Psychologists.

According to Dr. Darren Jones, Chief of Behavioral Health at William Beaumont Health System, it's important that parents help their children navigate through tragic situations such as these.

“For young children, we’re going to want to make sure the information we give, it’s brief and it's simple,” Dr. Jones said. "When we get to middle or high schoolers then a more detailed discussion is going to be more appropriate."
