Gov. Whitmer directs state to prep vaccinations for kids aged 5-11

On Tuesday, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer directed the state to speed up the ordering of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11.

The governor called the pending authorization of vaccination for children a "game-changer" that will protect kids as they attend school, participate in extracurricular activities and visit loved ones.

Michigan has pre-ordered 287,000 doses of the pediatric vaccine.

Michigan voters encouraged to return absentee ballots in-person before Nov. 2 election

Michigan officials are urging residents using an absent voter ballot, known as the “vote-by-mail” system, to drop off their ballots at a local dropbox in order to avoid postal mail delays.

Across Michigan, hundreds of state jurisdictions will hold elections on Nov. 2 for local races, such as mayoral and city council races, as well as other proposals.

Detroit City Council reaches unanimous vote to confiscate guns away from convicted DV offenders

On Tuesday, the Detroit City Council reached a unanimous vote to take firearms away from convicted domestic violence offenders.

The ordinance is called the Sgt. Elaine Williams Domestic Violence Ordinance, in recognition of Detroit Police Sgt. Elaine Williams. In 2019, Williams was shot several times at close range by her son's father Eddie Johnson.

New plant-based protein option offered exclusively at Metro Detro Taco Bells

At 95 Taco Bell locations across Metro Detroit, the new "Boldly-Seasoned" plant-based protein has been offered on the menu.

The plant-based option was initially test-marketed last April at a single location in Tustin, California, and it's Taco Bell's own proprietary, seasoned plant-based protein.
