End of an Era: Beloved Supermarket Shuts Its Doors in Californian City After 50 Years
Disappointing news for residents of Tahoe City in California with the Save Mart store set to close this month.
The store will close on October 18 after more than fifty years of serving the community due to the landlord not renewing the lease.
"We have proudly served the Tahoe City community for more than 50 years and are deeply disappointed in this decision. Tahoe City Save Mart associates will be offered job opportunities at other stores at The Save Mart Companies. We are actively exploring other locations so that we can continue to serve the Tahoe City community." company spokesperson
Once the store closes, the nearest Save Mart will be on Deerfield Drive in Truckee.
The decision by the landlord not to renew the lease has disappointed Save Mart, who have invested over $2.2 million in capital improvements in the Tahoe City store over the last five years.
“We are deeply disappointed. The landlord has been unreceptive to our proposals, including lease renewal and purchase. We want our store associates and shoppers to know that we want nothing more than to stay. It has always been our intent to stay in this location and continue to serve this community. We hoped for a different outcome, no doubt. We remain committed to the Tahoe City community and to our dedicated store associates, and we are actively exploring other location” Senior Vice President and Chief Operations Officer for Save Mart Donovan Ford
