Devastating news for employees of Wells Fargo in South Carolina with the banking giant slashing hundreds of jobs.

Under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, an employer with more than 100 full-time workers must provide a 60-day notice before laying off 50 or more people at a single site.

This week, Wells Fargo notified the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce that 525 positions would be cut. The cuts will be at the Columbia office.

We regularly review and adjust staffing levels to align with market conditions and the needs of our businesses. We work very hard to identify opportunities for employees in other parts of the company so we can retain as many employees as possible. Where it’s not possible, we provide assistance, such as severance and career counseling.” Wells Fargo statement
