Retail Reshuffle: Chicago Store Included in Chain's Eleven Closures

Disappointing news fans of outdoor specialty retailer Moosejaw with the announcement that eleven stores across the United States are due to close.

Dick's Sporting Goods acquired the retailer in March, and they have stated they will be closing eleven of the fourteen Moosejaw stores - including one in Chicago, in February.

In addition to the store closures, Dick's will close Moosejaw's headquarters in Michigan.

"After a careful review of our outdoor specialty business, we have decided to form one team that will support the operations of Public Lands and Moosejaw...This move supports our business optimization efforts and will allow us to operate more efficiently, quickly leverage best practices across our outdoor business and drive our long-term success. We look forward to continuing to provide outdoor enthusiasts great gear and service on moosejaw.com, publiclands.com and at Moosejaw and Public Lands retail locations" Sarah Cassella, a spokesperson for Dick’s

The news shocked and disappointed employees when they found out at a virtual company meeting. It was reported that 39 staff were laid off.

Chicago store closing

The Moosejaw store in Chicago will be closed by February 2024. The store receives many positive reviews online, with an average 4.4-star rating on Google.
