Huge Discounts Await: Minnesota Store's Closing Sale as Retail Chain Moves to Online Only

The retail apocalypse continues in the United States, with yet another chain filing for bankruptcy.

Popular retailer Soft Surroundings has filed for bankruptcy and announced it will close its stores. The women's apparel and accessories brand sought protection from creditors in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The business employs almost 650 staff at its headquarters and stores.

Soft Surroundings is a curated retailer of women's apparel, home, shoe, and accessories merchandise. The business was founded in 1999 and opened its first store in 2005. It will be the latest retail chain to move online as it closes all 44 retail stores and sells its online business to Coldwater Creek.

This will include a store in Minnesota.

"Over the past year, we have taken significant steps to fortify our financial standing including rightsizing our business to better match current market conditions. Our commitment to our stakeholders has never wavered as we meticulously evaluated the best path forward and are welcoming this next step to financially secure a bright future for Soft Surroundings. This will allow us to adapt, restructure, and emerge more resilient, ensuring the longevity of the beloved Soft Surroundings brand for our customers and partners" Executive Chair Bridgit Lombard.

One sales associate told reporters she was sad to see the retail stores closing.

I think this is a sad indication that it is very difficult for physical retail stores to maintain a presence anymore. I’ll miss it. It’s been fun.” sales associate Susan Bahl

Minnesota store to close with 80% off sale

Last year, the chain closed twenty stores, and the remaining 44 stores will close by February 2024. It filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notice in July, stating that it would lay off 79 workers at the company's distribution center.

Below is the store in Minnesota that will close. A final sale has been launched, offering up to 80% off.

  • 3510 Galleria, Suite 3200, Edina, MN 55435

It has been a tough year for retail businesses, with several large chains filing for bankruptcy and closing stores, including Bed Bath & Beyond, Tuesday Morning, Party City, Christmas Tree Shops, David's Bridal, and Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams.

Even retail giants such as Walmart have been forced to close stores.

This is a developing story; I will update readers with more information as it is announced and an official closing date for the Minnesota store.
