Major Retailer Exit Impacts Local Ventures

Disappointing news this week with the announcement a popular Office Depot in Chicago location will soon be closing.

The Office Depot, located in the Hyde Park Shopping Center, 5420 S. Lake Park Ave, will close permanently on November 11.

"We’ll wind down operations at this location, and it would just be simply for anyone picking up remaining fixtures and stuff like that, so it won’t be open to the public after that date. It’s been here for quite a while, so there’s a strong tie for a lot of customers in the area. The news is obviously kind of a shock to everyone … Hyde Park customers (say the area) is really underserved” Interim manager Stephen

Several community members and local small business owners told the Hyde Park Herald they were sad to see the store close, fearing it will be adversely impact them.

The store is having a closing down sale with up to 40% off items. Once the store closes, there will be only one remaining Office Depot location in Chicago.
