Dallas Restaurant Group Comes to the Rescue, Acquires Bankrupt Bakery Chain

A growing Dallas-based restaurant investment business has been approved to purchase the Corner Bakery business.

Some good news in the struggling retail and hospitality industry, with SSCP Management winning a bankruptcy court auction for Corner Bakery Café.

Corner Bakery, the fast-casual bakery-café chain, grew to almost 200 locations and was predicted to rival Panera Bread but struggled through the pandemic and filed for bankruptcy in February this year.

At the time, it was down to 138 locations.

SSCP is based in Dallas and "owns over 400 restaurants nationwide, operating under four separate category-leading concepts, including Cicis Pizza Buffet, Sonic Drive-In, Applebee's, and Roy's." It will soon be able to add Corner Bakery Cafe to the list of brands it owns.

SSCP won the auction to buy the 138-unit bakery café chain with a $15 million bid. It is a strategy similar to the one that saw it acquire the 300-strong restaurant chain Cicis Pizza in a bankruptcy auction in March 2021.

There are currently 31 Corner Bakery locations in Texas and fifteen in the DFW area, and it looks like they will remain open.
