Alabama Hit by Major Bank Closures as Several Locations Shut Down This Month

Ash Jurberg

Four bank locations in Alabama are due to close this month, with more to come.

Business closures continue to impact Alabama

This time it is a bank that will be closing locations in Alabama.

PNC Bank, which operates 2,629 branches in 27 states, is closing several locations in Alabama.

"PNC recognizes that branches continue to play an important role for many customers when it comes to conducting certain transactions and holding important in-person financial conversations with our banking experts, which is why we routinely evaluate our branch network, together with our other available methods of banking, to determine if we are most effectively meeting our customers' needs.

There could be more bank closures on the horizon as PNC Bank plans to automate 60 percent, or more than 1,000 branches, by 2026.

While some people do their banking online, many still prefer to visit a branch to conduct their finances, so this announcement will cause some concern. According to data from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), approximately 8,000 banks were in operation in 2000, but by 2022, this figure was halved.
