A video has gone viral on Tik Tok comparing the wages of Texas company Buc-ee's janitorial staff with office jobs.
Buc-ee's is known for being big and having America's Best Bathrooms.
But it's not only the locations that are big but also the wages- and perhaps that's why their toilets are so clean.
A video posted by a health worker has gone viral on TikTok as she laments her own wage with that paid to janitorial staff at Buc-ee's. In the video, Roxie explains she found out that Buc-ee’s pays their janitorial staff the same hourly wage as what she makes in her job as a case manager.
As her first video went viral, Roxie posted a second video outlining the hourly rates enjoyed by Buc-ee's employees.
"No hate to these positions at all. Like these are all very important lines of work, but at the same time, I am still in shock over this discovery. All love to janitors I honestly might join you at this point" Roxie
Big locations, big wages
This isn't the first time social media has lit up at the wages of Buc-ee's employees.
Earlier this year, a post went viral on Reddit when someone asked how Buc-ee's can pay so much to their employees.
The lowest-paid employee at the beloved Texas chain of gas stations and convenience stores earns $16 an hour, almost double the minimum wage in Texas, while General Managers at Buc-ee's can make up to $225,000 per annum.
“We’re very proud of the high wages and not just the high wages but the benefits as well. The 6 percent matching 401k, the fantastic health and dental insurance, paid time off that’s three weeks long. And of course, the high hourly pay are huge differentiators in the marketplace. And we believe that attracts the best employees.” Jeff Nadalo, the company’s general counsel.
Your thoughts
Are you surprised by the wages offered by Buc-ee's? Do you believe more Texan employers should pay these rates? What other businesses in Texas pay their employees well? Should the minimum wage in Texas be increased?
