What is the preferred grocery chain in Montana?

That is the question that placer.ai wanted to answer, so it analyzed data to see which chain ranked best, and there was a clear favorite.

Over 35% of grocery store visits in Montana are to Albertsons. This was way ahead of Winco Foods, which had 12%, and Safeway which only had a 10% share.

Interestingly Montana shoppers spent more time in a Winco Foods store. The average time spent in a Winco store in Montana was 32 minutes. Shoppers spent 26 minutes in an Albertsons or Safeway store. The data "also showed that customers appear to be flocking to the low-priced chain on weekends when they have more time to browse the aisles and stock up on discount goods."

Albertsons

Albertsons has 386 stores across the United States of which there are thirty in Montana.

Albertsons is currently seeking approval for a merger with Kroger and there are worries the merger could adversely impact shoppers. While on the East Coast and in the Midwest, Kroger, and Albertsons are in largely separate markets, the two retailers overlap heavily in the Northwest.
