This weekend marks the 2023 Texas Food Truck Showdown, so the website LawnStarter decided to find out which city in Texas is the best for food truck lovers.

They compared the 100 biggest Texas cities based on four mobile eats categories broken down into 11 metrics to determine this. Then, they "assigned a weight to each factor based on its importance and grouped those factors into four categories: Access, Consumer Satisfaction, Competition Awards, and Popularity."

The rankings

It probably comes as no surprise that Austin was ranked number one by the report. It ranked second in Texas for access to food trucks, first for customer satisfaction, first for popularity, and ninth for competition awards.

"Several food truck parks dot the city, but The Picnic is a favorite stop before chilling at Barton Springs or taking a relaxing walk through Zilker Park."

Houston was second on the list, followed closely by Fort Worth and San Antonio. Waco came in fifth place - "the only smaller city to secure its seat at the elite table by winning big at competitions." I guess that's why Waco is hosting the Texas Food Truck Showdown this weekend.

One small town which did surprisingly well on the report is Spring.

"With a population of just over 62,500, Spring is the only Texas city with fewer than 130,000 residents to crack the top 10 of all three Access metrics: Number of Food Trucks (No. 7), Number of Food Truck Parks (No. 6), and Food Trucks per Square Mile (No. 1)."
