Popular chicken restaurant chain Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken opened the first of 12 planned locations in Michigan.

Great news for chicken lovers in Detroit. Michigan with the announcement that popular chicken chain Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken is expanding in the city. Lee's was founded in 1966 by “the Colonel’s” nephew Lee Cummings.

The new location opened on Monday at 33351 Plymouth Road in Livonia, and there are plans to open eleven more in the Detroit area over the next few years.

Our experience tells us now is the time for such an established, high-quality brand as Lee’s to be available to a greater portion of the Detroit market. The menu items we’ll offer are perfect for on-the-go meals that have a freshness and home-prepared taste beyond other quick service restaurant offerings, and upcoming innovations in the flavor profiles are exciting for fans of the brand’s current favorites” Noman Aiyash, co-owner

Lee's is also the largest restaurant partner of GiftAMeal, and Lee’s, locally in Detroit, will work to fight hunger through the Forgotten Harvest Food Bank. Fans can take photos on the free GiftAMeal app, and a donation will be made to Forgotten Harvest. 

The news of Lee's expansion comes at a welcome time for the hospitality industry in Detroit. This week Burger King announced that 12 of its stores in Detroit and a total of 26 in Michigan would close by April 15.
