Dallas Zoo has been in the news lately but for all the wrong reasons.

Last week Nova, a three-year-old clouded leopard escaped from the zoo after it appeared that someone deliberately cut through the mesh of Nova's enclosure to entice an escape.

Now comes the sad news that a vulture has been deliberately killed.

Pin, the lappet-faced vulture, was at least 35 years old and had been at the Dallas Zoo for 33 years. Unfortunately, there are only 6,500 lappet-faced vultures in the world, making this incident even more tragic.

Dallas Zoo has announced a $10,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest.

Deaths are always difficult - but this one is particularly challenging. This is an endangered species … we are disturbed by the idea that someone might have intentionally done this. He lived here at Dallas zoo for 33 years.” Dallas Zoo Vice President Harrison Edell

These incidents have led to increased security measures being implemented at the Dallas Zoo.

"In the past week, we have added additional cameras throughout the Zoo and increased onsite security patrols during the overnight hours. We will continue to implement and expand our safety and security measures to whatever level necessary to keep our animals and staff safe." Dallas Zoo
