"Texas National Guard use boats to patrol the Rio Grande. Texas Military Department service members work side by side with the Texas Department of Public Safety to stop illegal activities from crossing the Texas-Mexico border. Thank you for keeping us safe." Texas Gov. Greg Abbott
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott confirmed today that the Texas National Guard is using boats to patrol the Rio Grande in an attempt to stop illegal activities from crossing the Texas-Mexico border.
The post by Gov. Abbott on Twitter was made after he sent an earlier warning about the number of drugs crossing the border. Abbott is attempting to combat the increase in drug and drug-related deaths by designating drug cartels as terrorists.
"Travis County could double the number of fentanyl-related deaths it saw last year. Texas has seized enough fentanyl to kill all Americans. We designated drug cartels as terrorists & continue combatting this national crisis by securing the border." Texas Gov. Greg Abbott
Border security seems to be the main focus of Abbott as he continues to pour resources into Operation Lone Star while criticizing the lack of assistance provided by the Biden administration. Abbott also continues busing migrants caught illegally crossing into Texas to northern cities
Your thoughts
Do you think Operation Lone Star is working? What more can Gov. Abbott do to secure the border and prevent illegal activities? Should President Biden be offering more assistance?
