Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents discovered 29 immigrants in a stash house in the 3700 block of Nashville Avenue in El Paso today.
The house was said to be in dire condition and without air conditioning or a bathroom. It is believed the 29 illegal immigrants had paid people smugglers to get them across the border. All 29 were adults, with twelve from Mexico, eight from Ecuador, seven from Guatemala, one from Honduras, and one from El Salvador.
"Human smugglers see people as merchandise and victimize them for profit. HSI will continue to target transnational criminal organizations engaged in this crime." Francisco Burrola, special agent in charge of HSI El Paso
Tension over the situation at the border between Mexico and Texas continues to rise.
Texas Gov Greg Abbott continues to bus migrants caught illegally crossing the border into Texas to other states. Yesterday was a record-breaking one for Abbott as five buses full of migrants arrived in New York City. According to officials, 237 passengers, including 14 children, all of whom were accompanied by their parents, arrived in an envoy of five buses.
Abbott has continually asked President Joe Biden to do more with border control and security.
More than 2 million illegal immigrants have crossed the border in the past 11 months — many of them pouring into Texas towns with populations far fewer than 50,000.Those communities have been ripped apart by cartel-infused crime that destroys ranches, invades homes and threatens the safety of Texas residents along highly trafficked areas of the border." Texas Gov. Greg Abbott
El Paso is a popular destination for illegal immigrants entering Texas.
"These types of cases are tragic. It’s not the amount of money involved; it’s the fact innocent victims are tricked into believing their loved ones are in danger and the horror and helplessness they feel as they scramble to secure what they think is their release." Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey R. Downey
Should President Biden take more responsibility at the border? Or do you think Gov. Abbott should be responsible? What more can be done to prevent people smuggling over the border?
