The Brown–Forman Foundation, based in Louisville, recently announced they would be giving $50 million to five organizations based in Louisville.

The Brown‑Forman Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the Brown‑Forman Corporation- the Louisville spirits and wine giant that manufactures some of the world's most well-known brands, including Jack Daniels, Old Forester, Finlandia, Woodford Reserve, and Herraruda.

The five organizations are all focused on educational programs and include:

  • $5 million to the Amped Community Center
  • $10 million to the Louisville Central Community Center
  • $5 million to the Louisville Urban League
  • $10 million to the Simmons College of Kentucky
  • $20 million to the West End School.
“[These organizations] are engaged in transformational change, and we see it and we want to be a part of it,” Ralph de Chabert, Senior Vice President for Brown-Forman

The organizations will receive the pledged amount over the next ten years and aim to provide security to these organizations so they can go ahead with long-term planning.

The Louisville Central Community Center has already made plans for the generous funding. They are using the funding to support their Mini-Versity Child Development Program. This program aims to send children to school with the social, educational, and emotional skills needed to succeed.

According to the Foundation's website, they partner with organizations that meet the criteria below.

  • Enhance Arts and Cultural Living
  • Ensure Essential Living Standards
  • Empower Responsible and Sustainable Living

Readers, what do you think of this announcement? What other Louisville organizations would you like to see the Brown-Forman Foundation support?
