This month, Forbes releases its annual list of billionaires.
There were 2,688 billionaires from around the world on the list. As a business and finance writer, I like to review this list and find interesting and inspiring stories that I can share with readers.
Today I want to look at the person who rose to become the richest female in Reno, Nevada.
Let's look at her story.
The richest female in Reno
The richest female in Reno is Eren Ozmen. She has a net worth of $2.6 billion. Eren had a great 2021, with her fortune more than doubling. Last year it was $1.2 billion.
Eren was born in Turkey in 1959 and came to the United States in the early 1980s, where she earned an MBA from the University of Nevada, Reno. After graduation, she joined the private aerospace and defense company Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC).
In 1994, together with her husband Faith Ozmen, she bought SNC. At the time, it had just twenty employees. Since then, the couple has bought 20 other organizations and turned SNC into a multi-billion dollar contractor to the U.S. Department of Defense.
SNC has a contract with NASA and has assisted with 400 missions to space, including several to the International Space Station and also to Mars.
Assisting future entrepreneurs
Eren Ozmen is also well known in Reno for her philanthropic efforts and passion for assisting new entrepreneurs.
In 2017, together with her husband, she launched Ozmen Ventures, a seed and early-stage venture capital fund headquartered in Reno. Ozmen Ventures aims to invest in young and dynamic local startups in Reno.
They have also created a permanent center for entrepreneurship at the University of Nevada, Reno, to stimulate the creation of new business ventures.
Eren Ozmen has also created a Women's Initiative to connect innovative female entrepreneurs with leaders, established professionals, and business owners in the community.
Readers, what do you think of Eren Ozmen's rise from immigrant to a billionaire? And are you glad to see her focus on helping new and emerging entrepreneurs achieve their dreams?
