New York is back at number one.
Today Forbes released its annual list of global billionaires. There are 2,668 billionaires around the world, but no city is home to more than New York. In 2022 there are 107 billionaires living in New York City. They have a combined wealth of $640 billion.
In 2021, Beijing claimed the title of the city with the most billionaires, but thanks to the Chinese government clamping down on some industries, New York returned to the number one position.
The new New York billionaires
Eight New Yorkers became billionaires over the past year.
- Josh Kushner is the founder of venture capital firm Thrive Capital. The 36-year-old is worth $ 2 billion, thanks to selling some of his business to investors. And yes, he is the brother of Jared Kushner, son-in-law of former President Trump.
- Ramzi Musallam, an immigrant from Jordan. He is the CEO of private equity firm Veritas and is worth $ 4 billion.
- Devin Finzer and Alex Atallah are the co-founders of OpenSea, which is the world's largest marketplace for non-fungible tokens (NFTs). They are worth $2.2 billion each.
The richest person in New York
Despite the influx of new billionaires, the richest person in New York remained unchanged. Once again, the King of the New York billionaires is media magnate and former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Let's hope that New York continues to add to its list of billionaires in 2023- who knows; it could even be one of you reading this article! Well, we can all hope and dream.
