As a simple kid born in the little town of Uvalde, Texas, it never occurred to me that I would one day be considered for political leadership. It is a humbling and inspiring path to ponder. It is also a path I am choosing not to take at this moment.” Matthew McConaughey

Today, Texas native Mathew McConaughey officially ruled himself out of running against Greg Abbott for Texas Governor with those words published on his Instagram account today.

Last week McConaughey told The Hollywood Reporter a decision was coming soon, and he stuck his word.

Posting a video to his millions of Instagram followers, he said, "One category of service I‘ve been exploring is politics, I’ve been considering a run for the governor of Texas, I’ve been listening, I’ve been learning, I’ve been measuring… I’ve been studying Texas politics and American politics. What have I learned? A lot.”

Instead of running, he will be "supporting entrepreneurs, businesses and foundations that I‘ve believe are leaders, establishments that I believe are creating pathways for people to succeed in life.”

Despite never nominating for the race, McConaughey had the support of many Texans. The latest poll conducted from November 9-16 by the Dallas Morning News and the University of Texas Tyler shows the Texan actor well ahead of both Greg Abbott and Beto O'Rourke.

In addition, 40% of Texans polled said they wanted McConaughey to run. While he had more support from Democrats, almost a third of Republican voters would like the actor to enter the race.

His video has already received over 800,000 views and almost 4000 comments- many of them urging the Texan to run for President in 2024.

Readers, what do you think? Are you glad that he has decided not to run? Would you prefer him to run for President in 2024?
