Earlier this month, Beto O'Rourke the former Congressman from El Paso, officially entered the race for Texas Governor. O'Rourke is aiming to end Texas Gov Greg Abbott's bid for a third term.
However, despite not nominating, Matthew McConaughey is still preferred over O'Rourke and Abbott by Texan voters. The latest poll conducted from November 9-16 by the Dallas Morning News and the University of Texas Tyler shows the Texan actor well ahead of both candidates.
While there were a lot of questions asked in the latest survey, let's take a quick look at three key questions.
1. Who would you support for Governor of Texas between McConaughey and Abbott?
43% of respondents preferred McConaughey, while just 35% selected Gov Abbott.
There has been a move to McConaughey ahead of Abbott in this latest poll. In the June poll released by The Dallas Morning News and the University of Texas at Tyler, Abbott was the preferred choice of Governor by 39% of Texans, ahead of McConaughey at 38%.
2. Who would you support for Governor of Texas between McConaughey and O'Rourke?
For this question, McConaughey was even more popular. 49% of respondents preferred him, while just 27% preferred Beto O'Rourke.
3. Do you want Matthew McConaughey to run for Governor?
40% of Texans polled would like McConaughey to run. While he had more support from Democrats, almost a third of Republican voters would like the actor to enter the race.
It is all shaping up for an exciting race for Texas Governor.
Readers, who do you think will win the race? Do you believe McConaughey should nominate? Do you agree that he is the best of these three potential candidates?
