John Sall was one of the co-founders of SAS with James Goodnight. He currently owns 33% of the business, which makes his net worth $3.2 billion and the third of the billionaires to live in Cary. Sall designed, developed, and documented many of the earliest procedures of SAS's computer programming language.

"We live in the age of big data, and most of this data is stored in databases. Making it easy to get this data into an analysis helps turn 'big data' into 'big statistics.' John Sall

In addition to co-founding the Cary Academy, Sall and his wife, Ginger, have given over $130 million to their Sall Family Foundation, which invests in the environment, public health, and science. Sall is a member of the board for the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History and, along with his wife, also works with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), CARE, and other non-profits.
