The Clay High School Blue Devils lost the FHSAA 4A District 3 Championship to the Bishop Kenny Crusaders by a score of 2-1 Thursday night.

Brandon Adams started on the mound for Clay High. He threw six and a third innings and held the Bishop Kenny offense to four hits and two runs.

The game drew out to an early lead for Bishop Kenny. In the first inning, Bishop Kenny scored their first run from a passed ball. With a runner on third base, Bishop Kenny scored their second run from a single up the middle by Aiden Charletta to advance the runner home. Bishop Kenny’s offense did not threaten Clay High’s defense the rest of the game.

Clay High struggled at the plate Thursday night. In the second inning with two runners on base, Clay High had three straight batters strikeout looking. Bishop Kenny’s pitcher, Garrett Corbett, struck out five Clay High batters Thursday night, according to MaxPreps.

Clay High’s lone run came in the top of the third inning. Jayden Long hit a sacrifice fly to the outfield that scored Max Williams. Clay High only had three hits during the entire game.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Eli Roberts entered the game in relief of Adams because Adams had reached his pitch count. Roberts got them out of the sixth inning, giving Clay High a chance to tie the game in the seventh inning. Clay High’s offense went three up, three down.
