Nature has always been fascinating to mankind and is the perfect medicine for people spending too much time in megacities. Botanical Gardens can also be found in cities and help the climate of city life. Trees, bushes, and other vegetation help on the way to cleaner air.
A unique highlight when visiting California is the Botanic Garden in Santa Barbara with its stunning natural landscape. A museum is build on 78-acres of ground to present a lot of California-native vegetation.
Several shorter and longer walking trails throughout the park invite the visitor to do some exercise while exploring the park. You will be able to walk through a towering coastal forest filled with redwood and then enter a desert with cacti being the only vegetation to be seen. The variety to be found in the gardens is absolutely impressive.
The views across the San Ynez Mountains and the valley are beyond breathtaking and invite the visitor to take breaks on selected viewpoints.
The Botanic Garden in Santa Barbara has more than 1000 different trees, plants, and flowers which will ensure always a new experience. Certain landmarks throughout the park are a big part of history and will let you understand how it developed over time.
The Porter Trail is a popular hike on the ridge on the east side of Mission Canyon Road. Due to a huge fire, a big part of this area has been destroyed in 2009 but it remains an attractive area.
If you're visiting the Botanic Gardens on a hot summer day and you're feeling exhausted and tired you should definitely give the redwood forest a visit which will surprise you with its cooling area and tranquil atmosphere. The oldest trees in this forest date back to 1926 and its towering size protects the ground from heating up too much in summer time.
The Woodland Trail leads through southern oak woodland build out of coast live oaks to the redwood forest.
