Yahoo News reports that a 70-year-old woman from Uganda may be the oldest to give birth on the continent.

Safina Namukwaya delivered twins - a boy and a girl on Thursday after IVF.

According to the hospital that helped deliver Safina's twins, she is the oldest mother in Africa.

Safina told the media that she spent all her savings to give birth to her twins. In addition, her partner left her and she had to do it all on her own with help from the hospital.

While Safina is the oldest woman in Africa to give birth, the record for the oldest woman in the world to give birth belongs to a 74-year-old from India who also gave birth to twins via IVF in 2019.
