Yahoo News reports on a homeowner's frustration and bafflement after he witnesses a mysterious mess coming from under his skirting board.
The homeowner living in Queensland, Australia noticed that bits of something were coming from behind his wall.
He posted an image of the mess on Facebook and asked if anyone had any answers. He stated that the messy bits had been persistently popping up in his home and he wanted to know if anyone could identify them.
He posted this message,
"I believe it's coming from the wall [and] tapping the wall produces a few more bits. Have not noticed any sounds.
"Usually seen this small mess appear in the morning so maybe an overnight thing... sometimes seen large black ants around."
A pest control expert chimed in to say that the mess was actually materials making up the wall of the house. The material was being destroyed by ants.
"In the wall cavity there must be black ants, and that must be what is bringing out the mess from the wall cavity onto the floorboards,"
The ant problem was a common occurrence that could mainly be seen in "colder and older" homes.
The ants nested in the shelter of the walls due to close proximity to food. One way to confirm that ants are present is to look for small holes in the drywall.
Also, if ants are present, then there is also a colony nearby. The only way to get rid of the problem is to find and remove the ant nest.
