The warning went viral when a TikTok user stitched a previous video from another TikToker who used to be a former hotel manager.
This former hotel manager warned that the main reason no one should be drinking from the coffee makers is because they were rarely cleaned.
The TikToker agreed with the former hotel manager's statement. She claimed that in another incident, the coffee maker was used for a much different purpose by the hotel guest.
The guest used the coffee maker as a makeshift laundry solution after she ran out of clean underwear She would steam her underwear in the room's coffee maker.
Airline employees have also reported that they have used the coffee maker to rinse their clothing.
Viewers of the TikTok video were equal parts thrilled and horrified. They thought it was a great idea to use the coffee maker as a makeshift steamer. However, they were also horrified at the thought.
According to the website, the kitchn, hotel coffee makers are not cleaned as often as they should be. The coffee makers require regular maintenance including cleaning with citric acid or a special cleaner. However, this is often not done.
The result is that they can serve as a breeding ground for bacteria and become moldy.
One solution for a hotel guest is to bring their own cleaner. A little bit of citric acid could be the trick to getting the coffee maker clean and useable.
