An article in The Daily Dot reported on the somewhat embarrassing experience that a woman had using the dating app Hinge.
Hinge is a dating app that is aimed at younger adults than those who are active on Match.com or eHarmony.
A TikToker named Dani decided to use Hinge. She set up a profile on the app. However, she wasn't impressed because she said that the app was getting people who looked like they could commit murder to match up with her.
She ended up deleting the app but then decided to try it again. So she redownloaded it but this time she had a surprise for her when the app tried to match her up with potential dates.
Dani got matched up with her own brother, Jordan.
“I could vomit at who my most compatible was,
While Dani thought it was disgusting to get matched up with her brother, she also saw the funny side. She told her TikTok viewers that her brother was single and cute.
According to Bustle, the Hinge algorithm works by using the Gale Shapley algorithm.
Hinge has a "most compatible" feature. The app uses machine learning and the Gale Shapley algorithm to pair members who are most compatible with each other.
The algorithm takes into consideration all the information that a person may add to their profile. A "most compatible" match may be offered every day.
There is not much information on how successful Hinge has been in matching up people.
However, for Dani and her brother, the app went completely wrong.
