AKRON - The City of Akron and Akron’s Children Hospital are collaborating to give families in Akron a fun start to summer. Akron’s Children Hospital is the exclusive sponsor of the “Jump Into a Healthy Summer” program.

The program started on June 1st by providing activity bags to children ages 5-12 years to keep them active and moving through the summer breaks. Participants of the program are given classic summer items like frisbees, jump ropes, Wiffle balls, cones, chalk and other items in the bag. Children can use the items given to play traditional games. Families can also create new games set their own rules.

“Akron Children’s Hospital is very excited to partner up with the City of Akron for the second year to sponsor the program. We want to see kids and families doing activity outside and enjoying the sun,” said Grace Wakulchick, president and CEO of Akron Children’s Hospital.

“We’re thrilled to encourage children and families in our community to stay active in their neighborhood, and these activity bags—generously sponsored by Akron Children’s Hospital—inspire that action. With items to fuel childhood fun, we can’t wait to see Akron’s kids staying active, playing outside, and letting their imaginations come alive,” Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan said in a statement.

The partnership provides the activity bags for free. Interested families can register at Lock3Live.com or by calling 330-375-2877. Participants are encouraged to email photos of themselves and their families having fun with the activity bags to lock3@akronohio.gov. Prizes are available for lucky participants.
