According to the New York Post, Tracy Beatty, 61, shared his final words before being executed via lethal injection in Texas on Nov. 9.
“See you on the other side,” he said according to the outlet.
According to the Associated Press, Beatty was convicted of killing his mother and burning her body in her backyard in 2003.
The outlet also outlined Beatty's final moments, "immediately before the procedure started, a prison chaplain placed his right hand on Beatty’s chest and said a brief prayer. Then asked by the warden if he had a final statement, Beatty, who was strapped to the death chamber gurney, choked up and sobbed as he began speaking to his wife who was looking through a window a few feet from him."
“I just want to thank ...” he said to his wife, according to the outlet. “I don’t want to leave you, baby. See you when you get there. I love you.”
He also uttered words to his fellow death row inmates saying, “I love you, brothers. See you on the other side.”
The U.S. Supreme Court Denied the Appeal Beatty's Lawyers
Prior to his execution, his lawyers claimed Beatty suffered from mental illness, therefore should not be put to death. According to FOX News, The U.S Supreme Court denied his last-minute appeal.
The outlet reported that Beatty was the fourth inmate to be executed in Texas, this year. A fifth and final for 2022 is scheduled for Nov. 16. In that case, Stephen Barbee was convicted for chilling his pregnant ex-girlfriend and her 7-year-old son in 2005.
Beatty was "pronounced dead at 6.39 pm local time" according to RTE.
According to the Texas Tribune, "To be sentenced to death in Texas, a person must be convicted of not just murder, but capital murder, a specific legal subset that includes killing a police officer or young child, killing multiple people, or killing someone while committing another felony like robbery or rape."
