What is confidence, what are some ways to improve your confidence and why it's important

Amy Gerreyn

Confidence, is it innate or can we learn it? Let me answer that question with another question. Are we born knowing how to cook multiple meals, or do we learn them overtime? To both answers, there is one simple answer; we learn these skills.

Confidence is something that can be built up over time, and there are many ways to do this. In this blog post, we will discuss the meaning of confidence, why it's important to be confident in yourself, and ways to be more confident in your own skin. We will also explore why having fake confidence can help, but isn't the answer in the long run, and how you can still be confident if you're an introvert. No matter how old you are, it's important to be confident in your own skin and believe in yourself!

Build your confidence

If you're not naturally confident, that's okay! There are still plenty of things you can do to build up your self-confidence, in fact, choose one from the list below and see the difference in your life.

Fake it till you make it

This means acting confident even if you don't feel it at first. Eventually, pretending to be confident will become second nature and you will start to actually feel more confident. Another way to boost your confidence is by surrounding yourself with positive people who believe in you. These people can provide encouragement and support when self-doubt creeps in.

Know your True worth

One of the best ways to build confidence is to know your own worth. This means understanding that you are just as valuable as everyone else, no matter what other people may think or say.

Value every part of you

not just the parts that society tells you are valuable. You are valuable. You have worth. You deserve to be treated well, you are beautiful, you are strong. You are worthy.

Self growth can equal more awareness

Often we get stuck in thinking we are less than valuable because we think we lack skills. If this is the case, it can be hard to just start thinking we are worth the life we want. So the best thing to do would be to look at your life and skills and see how you could change or enhance those aspects of your life.

Flaws aren't a bad thing

Accepting your flaws is a major part of self-love, which is essential for confidence. No one human is perfect, and let's be honest, we all know that, but we still strive for perfection. It's important to our confidence to acknowledge our flaws and accept them.

Set realistic expectations

No one person is great at everything in life, we all have our strengths and weaknesses. Trying to change things such as our bone structure, voice or height is unrealistic. Though they can be achievable, they are not realistic for most people. Instead, if you are unhappy with how you look, try changing your fashion style, hairstyle or workout routine. Start with simple, realistic expectations.

Goal setting

Another way to build confidence is by setting goals and working hard to achieve them. This can help you see your own progress and capabilities, which will boost your self-esteem. Always start with small achievable goals that lead to one big goal, that way you can see your progress everyday with little steps.

Courage comes in all shapes and sizes

There are many reasons why being confident in yourself is important. For one, it allows you to feel good about yourself regardless of what others think or say. It also gives you the courage to go after your dreams and pursue the things you want in life. Additionally, confidence can make you more attractive to others, both professionally and personally.

Introverts can be confident too

Confidence doesn't mean being the centre of attention all the time, or being a spokesperson. Yes those people all have a sense of confidence, but the truth is that the quietest person in your social circle could possibly be the most confident person in the best way, and that is self-confidence.

It's never too late to start

No matter how old you are, it's never too late to start working on your confidence. It's an important part of self-love and will help you pursue the things you want in life. So don't wait any longer, start building up your confidence today!
