Construction has started for a new cat cafe located in Pearl Cty, Oahu. The place will offer a combination of pet wellness, animal help, and skills training for young adults with disabilities.

What are the details?

KAT Charities, a nonprofit focused on uniting people with disabilities and animals, had teamed up with Dr. Karen Tyson, a family therapist, to create Toe Beans & Dreams.

The cafe will be hiring young adults with disabilities who will serve snacks, coffee, and baked goods while connecting with furry cats in need of hugs and forever homes.

"Toe Beans & Dreams Adoption Cafe has a special mission. It seeks to empower young adults with disabilities by offering jobs and training to help them lead fulfilling lives. It also connects Oahu with the loving furry friends we have rescued through our nonprofit KAT Charities," Dr. Tyson said, according to Sunnyskyz.

The cafe will also host talks between community groups that specialize in skills training for kids and adults with disabilities and behavioral therapy.

"When people with disabilities connect with animals, an incredible relationship is formed. Animals are unconditionally accepting; they place no judgment and don't have any social expectations from people. This breaks down barriers for individuals with social, learning, attention, or physical disabilities and fosters a healing relationship based on love and mutual trust," Dr. Tyson concluded.

The cafe, named after the paw pads on the bottom of kitties' feet, has the purpose of creating an inclusive community in the neighborhood where children with or without disabilities can feel welcome.

"We are also happy to include anyone who wants to volunteer their time and expertise for this venture, fulfilling lives and furry friends," Dr. Tyson concluded about the project.

And opening the cafe is not a minute too soon since local cat shelters are seeing many more kittens than usual brought in. KAT Charities currently have more than a hundred kitties ready to find their forever homes.
